621 Energy has developed and financed three separate roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) projects over a 5-year period totaling 81 kW at the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA Camp in Becket, MA.  These systems were installed with no up-front cost to the YMCA. The YMCA signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s) to purchase all the solar-generated electricity.

Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA Camp includes over 140 structures and 1400 acres. The camp serves over 1100 summer campers. The Berkshire Outdoor Center provides adventure leadership programming to 14,000 individuals annually.

The PV projects were installed on three of the more energy intensive buildings at the camp: the existing Chimney Corners Dining Hall, a newly constructed Facility Building, and a new construction Camp Becket Dining Hall. All 3  systems are connected “behind the meter” and are estimated to produce 90,000 kWh of electricity annually.

The completion of the PV projects enabled the camp to significantly reduce the electricity usage of the Dining Hall and fully offset the electricity usage in the Facility Building and the Camp Becket Dining Hall. The PV project provides progress toward the camp’s long-term goals of implementing sustainable practices and decreasing its carbon footprint.
